While formats have evolved from vinyl to cassette to the compact disc, sales and popularity were in constant boom for Michael Jackson. And as both recordings and Jackson, himself underwent “cosmetic” changes, his “Bad” album was the first-ever to earn Gold Record status (500,000 sales) in CD form. This 9-1/4 x 21” shadowbox display showcases a gold-colored disc and a metallic October 3, 1987 “Billboard” plate listing Jackson’s soulful effort at the top of the chart. An additional plate denotes the album’s status as the first-ever “Gold” CD.
