Description

Swashbuckling apparel tailored in the city’s familiar black and yellow comprises this lot of (4) jackets worn by Pittsburgh Pirates players spanning the 1980s and 1990s. The garments feature team logos and proper tagging. Among the attributable items is a 1987 spring training jacket worn by Jim Winn. The jackets show moderate wear. More on our website.

Jim Winn 1987 Game-Worn Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training Jacket: a black satin-like zippered garment with “Jim Winn 41” embroidered to the left breast in yellow and “Pittsburgh Pirates 1987” embroidered to the back in yellow. Black stretch ribbed knit lines the collar, waistline and button path. There are two front pockets and the collar’s interior is home to a “King Louie” size “XL 48-50” label. The jacket was issued and worn during the club’s spring training session in Bradenton, Florida, as Winn was traded to the Chicago White Sox on March 27.

1990s Game-Worn Jacket: a black knit zippered garment with two front pockets and “PIRATES” arched across the chest in yellow embroidery on white twill. Black-and-yellow striped stretch ribbed knit lines the collar, waistline and sleeve endings. Within the collar, a “Starter” size “L” label has a black marker notation of “19,” suggesting wear by Wally Backman (1990), Orlando Merced (1990), Curt Wilkerson (1991), Dan Plesac (1995-1996) or Emil Brown (1997-1999).

1994 Game-Worn Jacket: a black-and-yellow nylon button-down garment with “PIRATES” embroidered to the right breast and a “1994 All-Star Game” logo patch sewn to the left sleeve. There are two front pockets, while black stretch ribbed knit lines the collar, waistline and sleeve endings. An MLB silhouette logo adorns the base of the neck, while the collar’s interior is home to a “Starter” size “XL” label and a handwritten notation of “Tracy.” This was possibly a non-roster invitee in spring training, as no player or coach with the first of last name “Tracy” was with the organization in 1994.

1990s Game-Worn Jacket: a black-and-yellow nylon button-down garment with “PIRATES” arched across the chest in yellow embroidery on white twill. There are two front pockets, while black stretch ribbed knit lines the collar, waistline and sleeve endings. An MLB silhouette logo adorns the base of the neck, while the collar’s interior is home to a “Starter” label, a size “XL” tag and a handwritten notation of “79.” The latter identifier suggests that the jacket was issued and worn during spring training, as no player in Pirates history has worn the number “79” during the regular season.
