Description

NOTE: This description has been slightly modified to reflect that the small brown mug has a hairline crack on the top

“Lux Et Veritas.” With a literal translation of “Light and Truth,” the time-honored Yale University motto rings true in this vintage collection of (6) porcelain mugs and pitchers. Crafted in the early-1900s, the keepsakes display beautifully with football motifs from the revered Ivy League institution. Includes: Mug and Pitcher Set: includes (3) 5”-tall mugs and (1) 11”-tall pitcher. The school seal (with Latin characters) appears on one side and a Yale football player illustration (by F. Earl Christy) appears on the opposite side. Gilding and ornate finery lines the top of each and curved handles are attached; Pitcher/Mug Pairing: with identical designs, the 12”-tall pitcher and 6”-tall mug both feature a hinged lid. The mug showcases the aforementioned Christy illustration, while the pitcher has a “Chicago” pennant design.

The items are free of any cracks (except a hairline crack on the top of the small brown mug) and the designs are complete with no flaking. Incredible preservation shows throughout. The mug and pitcher set of (4) was crafted by “Avon” likely around 1905.
