A lifelong competitor with direct ties to the Olympic Games, diver Pat McCormick dared to perform maneuvers not allowed in female competition and went on to secure Gold Medals in the Springboard and Platform events at both the 1952 Helsinki games and 1956 Melbourne competition. Three decades later, McCormick remained on the Olympic Organizing Committee and carried this Olympic Torch at the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles. The relic measures 23” and features the Latin “Citius Altius Fortius” (faster, higher, stronger) engraved along the upper perimeter and a relief likeness of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum facade just below. The leather-bound handle is home to ringlets with engraved event details. LOA from Pat McCormick.
